Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) 20% buffered solution, is part of the group of antioxidant vitamins, together with Vitamins A and E. It is the main water-soluble antioxidant.
It plays an important role in the regeneration of alpha-tocopherol, the active form of vitamin E, as well as a co-factor in the hydroxylation of pro-collagen.
Among its main functions are related to the synthesis of collagen from its action on proline and hydroxyproline and the stimulation of fibroblasts, proteoglycans and other constituents of the ECM at the tissue level of the tissues. It also decreases corneocyte adhesion, facilitating dermoepidermal hydration.
It is necessary to form lysylhydroxylase, an enzyme necessary for the cross-linking of one collagen molecule with another, providing strength to the tissue.
It has depigmenting properties that make it useful as a daytime treatment and has a powerful antioxidant action that reduces the free radicals that cause photo-aging.
